SUMMARY:U!REKA Innovative Governance and Citizen Engagement CoE online workshop
DESCRIPTION:Warm welcome to the online workshop\, organised by U!REKA’s Innovative Governance and Citizen Engagement Centre of Expertise\, on Wednesday\, October 21st\, from 14:00 – 16:00 (CEST). \nWhat is this workshop about?\nThis online workshop focuses on Digital Humanism for Health and Well-being\, bringing together colleagues interested in strengthening collaboration and developing concrete joint initiatives in this area. The workshop aims to provide an inspiring space for exchanging ideas\, identifying synergies\, and building project and paper ideas. \nThe workshop will begin with a keynote presentation and be followed by an interactive discussion. \nResearchers interested in taking part should use their institutional email address to join the Teams event link. For further questions\, please contact the Innovation Director Anita Ahlstrand from Metropolia UAS: anita.ahlstrand@metropolia.fi. \nKeynote\nThe focus is on Digital Humanism for Health and Wellbeing\, with a keynote presentation by Dr. Mag. Alexander Schmölz from University of Applied Sciences BFI Vienna: \n\nAs digital technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI) rapidly permeate health sectors\, workplaces\, and daily routines\, society faces a profound paradox: while automated systems offer new computational efficiencies\, they simultaneously introduce severe risks of digital burnout\, algorithmic surveillance\, and social alienation. In sensitive domains such as mental health\, the increasing deployment of generative AI chatbots for therapeutic support and interpersonal guidance illustrates a dangerous conflation of technical reliance with genuine human trust.\nBecause AI systems lack consciousness\, bodily vulnerability\, and moral agency\, attempting to delegate relational care to synthetic proxies threatens to erode essential human relations in the health sector\, obscure accountability\, and isolate vulnerable individuals.\nThis keynote positions Digital Humanism and existing studies on health and digital media as an ethical framework to navigate these disruptions and steer technological adoption toward health shared human wellbeing. At its core\, Digital Humanism redefines the conditio humana by ascribing calculative\, rule-based rationality to machines\, thereby liberating humans for uniquely human capacities—such as empathy\, co-creativity\, ethical judgment\, and authentic care.\n\nLink for MS Teams

SUMMARY:U!READ: Bring a book!
DESCRIPTION:U!READ book club launches on 29 October with a session dedicated to U!REKA’s values. \nThe first session of U!READ\, the brand new U!REKA book club\, will take place online on Thursday\, 29 October 2026\, 18h (CET). \nFor this meeting\, participants are invited to bring a book they associate with one of the three U!REKA values: inclusion\, co-creation and boldness. The choice is entirely open: it can be a book about that value\, a book that has shaped an experience related to it\, or one that\, in some way\, invites reflection on its meaning. \nDuring the session\, each participant will have the opportunity to introduce their chosen book and share how they connect it to the idea that inspired their choice. U!READ aims to create a space for cultural exchange\, expanding perspectives and reflecting on and appreciating the unique ways in which each person connects with books and makes sense of the world. \nJoin us to discover new books and perspectives while connecting with fellow readers from across Europe. \nU!READ is a collaborative initiative that offers monthly online shared-reading sessions for the U!REKA community. The sessions last one hour and take place monthly\, on the last Thursday of each month. Organisation rotates among the Alliance’s partners. \nParticipation: https://teams.microsoft.com/meet/3397832270702658?p=ZVpQ9mtJUQVf4Vc37r
