SUMMARY:U!REKA Knowledge Creating Community: Online Session for City and Regional Planners and Officers
DESCRIPTION:Summers are getting hotter\, and cities are on the front line. How can we design streets\, neighborhoods and buildings so that people stay safe and comfortable when temperatures rise? \nU!REKA European university alliance invites city and regional planners and officers as well as U!REKA researchers and other partners to a one-hour online session on heat stress and heat resilience in urban areas on Monday\, November 30th\, 2026\, from 15-16 (CET). \nProgramme\n\nWelcome words – Timo Nykopp from Metropolia UAS\nKeynote – Professor Jeroen Kluck from Amsterdam UAS\nModerated discussion on best practices and design guidelines in cities\nWays forward: how can we work together\n\nWhat to expect?\n\nShare what your city is doing\, and learn from other city officials\nLearn proven Dutch best practices for tackling heat stress in cities\nGet design guidelines that are practical for city and regional planners\nMeet partners interested in a joint Horizon Europe proposal\n\nWho is this for?\nThe session is open for city and regional planners and officers who want to tackle heat stress in their cities\, as well as U!REKA researchers and partners who work on climate adaptation\, urban planning\, or green infrastructure and/or are interested in the topic. \nKeynote\nJeroen Kluck is Professor of the Research group Climate Resilient Cities at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences and has led this research group since 2008. His work has helped shift the Dutch conversation from stormwater to urban heat\, indoors and outdoors\, and has resulted in design guidelines for heat resilience that are widely applied in the Netherlands. In 2021 he received the IXA Impact Award in the Environment & Climate category. He will share what has worked in practice and what other cities can take from it. \nHow to join?\nThe invitation and link will be shared based on the registration. Please register here by November 27\, 2026. \nIf you have any questions\, please contact Lecturer Timo Nykopp from Metropolia UAS’ School of Smart Solutions: timo.nykopp@metropolia.fi.
