Intercultural Education

June 18 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Content:

By demonstrating empathy, cultural awareness, and responsible social behavior, teachers and staff play a crucial role in fostering Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC). ICC refers to the ability to understand, value, and engage effectively with individuals from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. This skill is not only vital within the classroom but also equips students to navigate the complexities of an increasingly interconnected world.

Moreover, ICC serves as a key framework for incorporating Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) into higher education. By promoting empathy, mutual respect, and cultural understanding, it supports the socio-emotional objectives of education. Both academic environments and individual classrooms function as microcosms of global society, offering students valuable opportunities to engage with diverse perspectives and develop the essential skills for effective intercultural communication.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Develop cultural awareness by sensitizing participants to cultural diversity and the challenges of intercultural communication;
  2. Equip participants to operate within the framework of intercultural communicative competence;
  3. Promote empathy and active listening through attitudes of respect, understanding, and adaptation to different cultural perspectives;
  4. Prepare for global work environments by enabling participants to engage in professional interactions in international and multicultural contexts;
  5. Strengthen intercultural mediation by developing skills to facilitate dialogue and reduce cultural barriers in different settings.
