Engaging citizens, governing for climate justice

The U!REKA Centre of Expertise Innovative governance and citizen engagement fosters synergy and engagement of U!REKA stakeholders. By conducting its own research and contributing to other Centres of Expertise, it aims to address the governance for climate-neutral, resilient, and participatory urban development.

Our research focuses on just climate transitions in cities and neighbourhoods, innovative governance models for decision-making and cross-sector collaboration, and citizens’ empowerment to strengthen European democracies. We are committed to facilitating human-centric and inclusive transitions to climate neutrality, integrating New European Bauhaus principles. We emphasise participatory, cultural, and technological approaches to create inclusive, vibrant, and sustainable cities.

Our activities cover networking, joint communication, trainings, capacity building in research competencies, and contributing to challenge-based education.
