Sustainability in the Urban European Context
Are you ready to dive into the fascinating world of sustainability within the urban European context? This is a co-created course, designed to help you develop a deeper understanding of sustainability. This course serves as a foundational experience for all U!REKA European University Alliance students, fostering a common understanding and a sense of identity as U!REKA University students alongside your connection with your local university as a partner within the alliance. After completing the course, the students are aware of the planetary ecological boundaries, climate change and biodiversity loss, the students understand the three dimensions of sustainable development as a systemic whole and can argue the interdependencies between them, the students are aware of the European regulations related to digital and green transition, the students are able to identify the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals and how the goals are promoted within U!REKA cities, the students are aware of the sustainability focus within U!REKA European University Alliance. Values and Mindset Underlying the Sustainability Shift (approximately 1-2 hours of work): Explore the values and mindset necessary for fostering a sustainable future. Systemicity and Planetary Boundaries (approximately 2-3 hours of work): Understand the interconnectedness of ecological systems and the limits within which humanity can safely operate. The Three Pillars of Sustainability (Economic 2-3 hours/ Social 2-3 hours/ Ecological 2-3 hours of work): Dive into environmental, economic, and social sustainability to grasp how these pillars support a sustainable future. EU Regulatory Frameworks supporting the Green and Digital Transformation (approximately 1-2 hours of work): Become aware of the European regulations supporting the green and digital transitions. Cases from the Partner Countries (approximately 1-2 hours of work): Learn from real-world examples and case studies from eight countries within the U!REKA alliance.
