Kickstart your career internationally

Our international internship program connects students, universities, companies and public institutions across Europe. We want to support them in working together on real life challenges and shaping the transition to inclusive, smart, sustainable and climate-neutral cities.

What to expect and how to apply

Our internships are available in different formats and eligible to students from U!REKA universities.

Formats

  • Research internships within academic teams 
  • Project-based internships linked to U!REKA themes 
  • Operational/practical internships in a diverse range of sectors  

Eligibility

To participate, you must: 

  • be enrolled at one of the U!REKA partner universities,
  • meet the specific requirements of the chosen internship opportunity (these may vary depending on the host organisation and are outlined directly in each internship description).

Application

Your documents should include:

  • your CV
  • a letter of motivation
  • if applicable, references from previous internships.

As part of your application, please indicate:

  • the planned duration of our stay
  • the exact time period
  • whether the internship is part of your study programme (including the awarding of credits) or undertaken independently outside your curriculum.

Funding

If you are interested in applying for an Erasmus+ grant to support your stay abroad, please make sure to check the funding conditions at your home university in advance and ensure that they match your individual situation. 

Please note that applying for additional funding programs may conflict with already existing scholarships, grants or financial support schemes.

Life Terra

  • What? Would you like to contribute to restoring Europe’s forests and work in the dynamic environment of an international reforestation organisation? Then this is your chance! Life Terra is looking for an intern who could assist with project and event management for 24-32 hours a week, and of course someone who has an affinity with nature! 
  • When? Starting in early October 2026.
  • How long? For at least 5 months and preferably until April due to the duration of the planting season.
  • Field of study: Nature restoration, ecology, forestry, natural resource management, biology, environmental sciences, development studies or a related field is a plus.
  • Level: Bachelor or master
  • Prerequisites:
    • Someone with a passion for our environment and motivation to fight the climate crisis with nature-based, community-led solutions.
    • Experience with project/event management is preferred.
    • Strong communication skills.
    • Proficiency in English and Dutch is required.
    • Proficiency in French or another European language is highly valued.
    • A multitasker who can work independently and flexibly, especially within the ever-changing environment of our organisation.
    • A sociable host for (corporate) events who likes to engage with people.
    • A driver’s license is required.

  • What? Contribution to the U!REKA project UrbanSWARM. Nature-based solutions for water stress and biodiversity.
  • When? Applications for this internship are currently closed. Starting November 2026, you can once again submit applications for internships taking place in the spring semester.
  • How long? Minimum of four weeks
  • Field of study: Multidisciplinary, urban planning, architecture, economics, social sciences
  • Level: Advanced Bachelor level (3rd year or higher)
  • Prerequisites: Multidisciplinary and willingness to work in a project team environment
