Courses
AI for the bachelor student
Course overview
Learn to evaluate when and how AI can be effectively applied in your field, understanding its possibilities, limitations, ethics, and practical considerations.
Course content
This course introduces students to the practical evaluation of artificial intelligence within their own field of study. Students will learn to assess when AI solutions are useful, realistic, and ethical—and when traditional approaches are more effective. The course explores both the potential and the limitations of AI, emphasizing critical thinking over hype. Key topics include data quality, interpreting reported error rates correctly in context, ethical & legal considerations, and the costs of implementing AI solutions.
Learning outcomes
The student is able to:
- explain various terms related to AI.
- name the importance of “good” data for AI (different dimensions of data).
- name and explain different costs of an AI project.
- identify and categorize possible errors.
- explain that the accepted error rate varies depending on the application.
- name the different phases of training an AI model and articulate the importance of each phase.
- label examples as AI/no AI possible to solve problems, supervised learning/unsupervised learning, with/without pitfalls and explain the reason.
- elect a problem within their own field and evaluate whether an AI solution makes sense and is realistic.
