Courses
Introduction to life cycle assessment
Course overview
This learning module will teach participants what LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) is. By the end of the course, you will understand what LCA is, who can use it, its applications, and how it works.
Course content
The digital learning module consists of four sections, each followed by an assignment:
- Getting started: watch the LCA introductory lecture.
- Read the text and learn how the LCA method works.
- LCA in practice: study the LCA report of a simple product.
- Apply what you have learned: do a simplified LCA of a very simple product yourself.
Assessment
Each of the four parts of the course is followed by a multiple-choice exam, which the student must pass in order to continue the course. At the end of the course, the student will receive a grade of pass/fail. In addition, students share their assignments with other participants and give each other peer feedback.
Learning outcomes
After completing this course, participants will have learnt what LCA is, why LCA is used, who can use LCA and for what purposes, how LCA works (the four ISO steps of LCA) and what tools are needed to perform LCA. Students will also practice reading a real LCA report and carry out an LCA study on a simple product themselves.
Peer feedback will deepen understanding of the topic, develop communication and self-assessment skills and increase participant engagement.
