Course overview

This course focuses on the role of physiotherapy in addressing specific conditions in women’s health. It covers the evaluation and evidence-based clinical reasoning required to assess and treat musculoskeletal, lymphatic, and psychological conditions, particularly during pregnancy and the postpartum period, as well as general pain and systemic conditions in women.

Course content

  1. Evaluation and treatment of lumbopelvic pain;
  2. Evaluation and treatment of diastasis recti;
  3. Evaluation and treatment of lymphedema in pregnant and postpartum women;
  4. Psychological conditions related to women and the modern women’s role from a sociological point of view;
  5. Cardiopathies associated with women;
  6. Fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis;
  7. Pain in general in women.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students should be able to:
  • Understand the physiotherapist’s role in special conditions in women’s health (e.g., lumbopelvic pain, diastasis recti, lymphedema, and postpartum psychological conditions);
  • Identify, evaluate, and manage late complications and special conditions in women’s health;
  • Comprehend the theoretical assumptions of treatments for specific conditions in women’s health;
  • Apply and scientifically justify treatment techniques for these conditions.
