Metropolia Minno® – introduction to innovation

Course overview

The Metropolia Minno® online course is an inspiring journey into the foundations of innovation, teamwork, and future-oriented thinking. Through engaging content and reflective exercises, you’ll dive into themes such as psychological safety, foresight and futures literacy, design thinking, and the Inner Development Goals framework.

Discover how innovators think, collaborate, and lead change — and prepare yourself for the next steps in your journey, wherever it may lead!

The course is completed entirely independently on the Moodle online platform. It is free of charge and suitable for anyone interested in the subject.

Course content

In this course you will learn about the following topics:

  • The concept of innovation
  • Basics of teamwork
  • The concepts of sustainable development and personal development and their reflection exercises
  • The progression of the design process and its testing against an everyday challenge identified by the student
  • Recognition and identification of own competences through a skills bank
  • Future-oriented development of own skills

The online course work includes videos and written materials, learning tasks related to the videos, a test, a learning journal, and providing and receiving peer feedback.

Assessment

  • Pass: The course is passed when you can demonstrate that you have grasped the key principles of the course and achieve a passing grade on the exam. You are able to assess your own skills as well as give and receive peer feedback. You have completed the learning tasks on the Moodle platform.
  • Fail: The course is failed if you have not clarified the basic principles of the course, do not pass the exam, and have not completed the learning tasks on the Moodle platform.

The exam on the Metropolia Minno® 1 online course can be retaken three times.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student will be able to:

  • Define the concept of innovation.
  • Understand the concept of teamwork and the key themes related to its success.
  • Understand the Internal Development Goals (IDGs) related to sustainable development (SDG) thinking.
  • Understands the key stages of the design process in development work.
  • Experiment with foresight methods to anticipate their own competence development.
  • Develop skills in identifying and recognizing one’s own competences.
  • Operate a bilingual online-learning platform.
  • Write in text format their main reflections.
  • Receive and give peer feedback.
