The landscape of education is constantly evolving, with online learning becoming an integral part of modern teaching practices. To enhance the quality of online education, educators need effective tools and strategies to design engaging and impactful learning experiences. This training course introduces teachers to the ADDIE model, a proven framework for instructional design, and equips them with the skills to create meaningful online learning environments. Through three hour autonomous modules, participants will explore the most important elements of online learning. The goal of the design thinking fundamentals course is to familiarise you with the mindsets and methods of design thinking, as well as the practice to apply these in your daily practice. We will take you through the entire design thinking process using a learning by doing approach. You will work hands-on to combine theory with practice through case studies and hands-on exercises. You will be introduced to our Design Method Toolkit and apply various design methods to a relevant case. The methods in our toolkit will help you to collaborate more effectively, using design and design methods as a common language. During the three sessions of the course, you will learn to move more quickly from talking and discussing to visualising and making things tangible, which will ensure a richer, more productive, and more creative workflow.
Reimagining nature
Explore artistic and creative methods that offer fresh perspectives on nature and humanity’s evolving relationship with it. Designed for teachers. This course is specifically designed for teachers who are interested in exploring a range of artistic and creative methods that offer new ways of looking at nature and the role of humans in it. After completing this course, you will be able to apply these methods in your own teaching context and to engage your students in the essential question: “What is a sustainable future?” This online course was developed by the AUAS Centre of Expertise Creative Innovation. During this course, artists, designers, and researchers share new perspectives and methods for examining our changing relationships with nature. We explore digital and speculative imagination techniques that allow you and your students to speculate about future sea-level rise, to highlight stories of animals and plants in human-made environments, and to discover ways to make the use of controversial natural resources open for discussion. This course offers an inspiring journey to broaden your perspectives and integrate innovative methods into your teaching.

The explorative mindset is an essential element of creativity, innovation, design and art. If you want to create solutions that will disrupt and transform your field, you need to nurture this mindset. Module 2: Perspectives This module is about embracing diverse perspectives, provoking thought, and thinking critically. If the module on exploration was about nurturing openness and curiosity, this one is about questioning. The purpose of this module is to develop a mindset of considering multiple perspectives when exploring a topic on which you would like to create innovation. Module 3: Reflection This module is about building capacity to process information, to synthesise and connect with your personal values, passion and needs. The process of reflection supports you to integrate all of the ideas, possibilities and perspectives you have been exploring. This process allows you to come up with unique new ideas, identify opportunities that you might have not noticed before and discover the essence (for yourself) of all the information that we are constantly flooded with.

The Metropolia Minno® online course is an inspiring journey into the foundations of innovation, teamwork, and future-oriented thinking. Through engaging content and reflective exercises, you’ll dive into themes such as psychological safety, foresight and futures literacy, design thinking, and the Inner Development Goals framework. Discover how innovators think, collaborate, and lead change — and prepare yourself for the next steps in your journey, wherever it may lead! The course is completed entirely independently on the Moodle online platform. It is free of charge and suitable for anyone interested in the subject. After completing the course, the student will be able to: Define the concept of innovation. Understand the concept of teamwork and the key themes related to its success. Understand the Internal Development Goals (IDGs) related to sustainable development (SDG) thinking. Understands the key stages of the design process in development work. Experiment with foresight methods to anticipate their own competence development. Develop skills in identifying and recognizing one’s own competences. Operate a bilingual online-learning platform. Write in text format their main reflections. Receive and give peer feedback. Assessment Pass: The course is passed when you can demonstrate that you have grasped the key principles of the course and achieve a passing grade on the exam. You are able to assess your own skills as well as give and receive peer feedback. You have completed the learning tasks on the Moodle platform. Fail: The course is failed if you have not clarified the basic principles of the course, do not pass the exam, and have not completed the learning tasks on the Moodle platform. The exam on the Metropolia Minno® 1 online course can be retaken three times.

In this course, learners develop ethical hacking and penetration testing skills that build a foundation for success in the cybersecurity industry. With the support of video and rich interactive media, participants learn, apply, and practice ethical hacking skills in meaningful ways through a series of realistic hands-on lab experiences. The course also includes many opportunities for learners to practice what they are learning as they are learning it. Learning by doing is the most powerful way to build new skills and knowledge. After completing this course, learners can enter cybersecurity careers, either on the offensive security side as ethical hackers or penetration testers, or on the defensive security side by understanding the mindset and tactics of threat actors while implementing security controls and monitoring, analyzing, and responding to current security threats. The course is designed to prepare learners with the Ethical Hacker skillset. Learners will become proficient in the art of scoping, executing, and reporting on vulnerability assessments, while recommending mitigation strategies. By using an engaging gamified narrative throughout the course, with real-world inspired hands-on practice labs, learners develop essential workforce readiness skills to lay a solid foundation in offensive security. The Ethical hacker course includes the following features: 34 labs support the independent acquisition of knowledge and ethical hacking skills. 86 practice activities provide opportunities for self-assessment and identification of learning deficits. 10 modules of content cover important topics that enable students to face ethical hacking challenges. Assessments include 10-chapter exams, a final exam, and a skills-based assessment. Multimedia learning tools, including videos, interactive practice activities and realistic lab experiences address a variety of learning styles and help stimulate learning and promote increased knowledge retention. Note that the course is continuously evolving. Its structure and content may change from what is presented here. Final tests In order to successfully complete the course, it is required to pass the Ethical Hacker Self-Paced Final Exam and complete the final exam on Metropolia’s Moodle. Ethical Hacker Self-Paced Final Exam There are 50 questions in total. You must achieve 70% to pass this exam. You have unlimited attempts to pass the exam. When you have achieved the required passing score on the test (70%), you can proceed to complete the Metropolia Final Test. Metropolia Final Test There are 50 questions in total, and the duration is 120 minutes. All questions are based on course materials. Minimum passing score for the test is 70% (700/1000). If not achieved, you need retake the test. The retake limit is three. This is a non-stop course and can be taken any time between August 2026 and December 2027. Please note that the registration is open only until July 2027.
