Urban infrastructure
Acquire cross-disciplinary knowledge about sustainable urban infrastructure and explore strategies for environmentally friendly mobility. Resource efficiency, climate compatibility, and resilience are concepts that resonate with SDG 11, “Sustainable Cities and Communities,” SDG 6, “Clean Water and Sanitation,” and SDG 7, “Affordable and Clean Energy.” The boundaries of traditional engineering disciplines must be overcome and integrated. Furthermore, interdisciplinary solutions must be developed to address social, ecological, and economic challenges of urban development. After completing the course, students will be able to analyze and reflect on the infrastructural challenges of urban development in a multidimensional way and develop future-oriented solutions for the planning, design, and management of relevant urban infrastructures. A cross-disciplinary understanding enables them to tackle complex urban problems in multidisciplinary teams in their professional field, thus taking on management and leadership tasks in an increasingly interdisciplinary context. Student will receive a certificate of advanced studies. Mobility in Cities: requirements, approaches, and practical examples for sustainable, especially non-motorized, mobility in cities. Water and Sewage: water supply and wastewater and rainwater management as part of sustainable urban development. Waste and Energy: energy supply and waste management in urban areas. Students will acquire comprehensive, cross-disciplinary knowledge in the field of sustainable urban infrastructure. They will explore concepts and strategies for environmentally friendly mobility in cities and neighborhoods, with a particular focus on non-motorized forms of transport. Above, students will learn about current best practice examples from Europe and around the world. They will also acquire knowledge of the fundamentals of urban water supply, be able to assess the respective advantages and disadvantages of centralized and decentralized solutions, and gain an understanding of the importance of wastewater and rainwater management as part of integrated urban development. Furthermore, students will deal with the basics of sustainable waste management and examine the needs, options, and forms of implementation of a sustainable energy supply in urban areas.
