As part of U!REKA, Frankfurt UAS has established four innovation professorships focussing on strategically important projects. The selected professors are allowed to reduce their teaching load by six semester hours for two years in order to focus on international research topics or cross-university projects. One of them is Prof. Dr. Raul Gschrey.
U!REKA European University has a new website. This was needed to adequately reflect and communicate the increased activity within U!REKA. Remarkably, the new website was developed by students from Finnish U!REKA partner Metropolia, who are doing an internship at Valovirta, a spin-off company of the Finnish university of applied sciences.
We started the year with a special guest. On 6 January, AUAS had the honour to host Petr Blížkovský, Secretary General of the Committee of the Regions. His visit underscored the role of applied sciences universities in addressing urban challenges and advancing Europe’s sustainability goals.
UrbanCircular Hack(athon) at Frankfurt UAS took place in November. The Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences hosted the first UrbanCircular Hack(athon) on 13 and 14 November 2024. As part of the European University Alliance U!REKA, around 30 students from Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Lisbon tested an innovative format that not only promoted creativity but also a sense of community.
From 3 to 5 December, the U!REKA Research Days took place at HOGENT University of Applied Sciences and Arts. Researchers from the U!REKA partners spent three days together to get to know each other’s expertise and research background, discuss common interests and research themes, and thus lay the foundations for possible future research initiatives.
On Thursday, 7 November 2024, we organised a public online educational conference, targeted towards educators and teaching-related administration of the U!REKA partner institutions. An important next step!
U!REKA’s got talent – Interregional Centres of Expertise. Missed the livestream? Watch the recording of the live session with a panel discussion on 25 November 2024.

One major milestone of the U!REKA European University is the set-up of a joint virtual campus environment to offer learning opportunities in the fields of Green Transition, Digital Transition as well as Transversal Skills. Digital learning journeys, blended learning offers or on-sight trainings will be used to share relevant insights. We will tailor-make the offer to meet the demands of our target groups.
