The goal of the design thinking fundamentals course is to familiarise you with the mindsets and methods of design thinking, as well as the practice to apply these in your daily practice. We will take you through the entire design thinking process using a learning by doing approach. You will work hands-on to combine theory with practice through case studies and hands-on exercises. You will be introduced to our Design Method Toolkit and apply various design methods to a relevant case. The methods in our toolkit will help you to collaborate more effectively, using design and design methods as a common language. During the three sessions of the course, you will learn to move more quickly from talking and discussing to visualising and making things tangible, which will ensure a richer, more productive, and more creative workflow.

The goal of this course is improving the oral and written skills of the English language of the students by means of literature research on a biomedical topic regarding the ongoing research project(s) in the department of biomedical science. A specific training in speaking and writing scientific English is a true benefit for students who will be employed in biomedical laboratories and pharmaceutical industries. In this course they will be prepared to understand and to use the English language, which is the international scientific language. This course will enable the students to work in an international environment. This course is also an interesting preparation for the following internship and for the writing of the bachelor thesis. Bachelor students will be able to report clearly and accurately on experimental data and analysis results, projects, and the processing of scientific literature, using appropriate biomedical terminology. The bachelor independently plans their laboratory work and organizes their analyses and experiments systematically and efficiently within an agreed timeframe. This course provides students with an understanding of the principles, frameworks, and practices of sustainability reporting. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: Explain and evaluate the legal requirements governing the preparation of sustainability reports. Articulate and critically assess the importance and purpose of sustainability reporting. Identify and analyze the key stakeholders involved in sustainability reporting. Describe the essential characteristics of a sustainability report. Conduct and interpret double materiality assessment. Summarize the thematic European sustainability standards (environmental, social, and governance). Explain the voluntary sustainability standards applicable to SMEs. Design a step-by-step plan for preparing a sustainability report (materiality assessment, KPI selection, action planning, and verification). Reflect on their professional role as a bachelor-level graduate in business (accountancy, finance, HR, supply chain, marketing, law, etc.) within the sustainability reporting process. Students explore the importance of sustainability disclosure, the relevant legal and regulatory context, and the application of European sustainability standards. Particular attention is given to the concept of double materiality, value chain considerations, and the role of due diligence. You will develop solid expertise in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and immediately apply this knowledge to a real business case. The programme offers a strong theoretical foundation combined with highly practical skills for implementing, managing and reporting on sustainability in organisations. It is internationally oriented, certified by UNITAR (the training centre of the United Nations), and fully aligned with the European Sustainability Competence Framework. Gain the skills to advise organisations on contingency planning and damage control. CRISIS is any situation, event or activity that can lead to an unstable and dangerous situation affecting an individual, group, community or entire society. It is mostly unpredictable; not always unexpected, but it always has a potentially negative result. By the end of the course, students will be able to: understand crisis phases, the importance of preparedness and how to calculate risk probability and impact. evaluate real events based on good practice guidelines. focus on key knowledge and skills that are essential to effectively respond and recover from a crisis or incident. advise companies to make crisis management plans with clear, well-understood structures, roles and responsibilities. This course on crisis management will offer you the basics in identifying, preventing, and controlling crisis situations. Crisis management basics, from preparation to training and compliance are discussed, as are various stages of a crisis, and the need to establish a crisis management team. Clearly identifying the roles and functions of each crisis management team member is essential for the ultimate success of contingency planning, which is also discussed. Finally, the course concludes with guidance regarding damage control, the restoration of confidence in a business, company or entity, and offers students a basic checklist that may be utilised as a starting point for a crisis management team in a variety of business environments or public sector scenarios. All the above will be done by analysing recent crisis situations and evaluate it by looking at the company background, the crisis situations, internal and external responses, the aftermath and consequences, the lessons learned and future prevention. Assessment During the entire course you will be required to actively participate by taking part in (online) discussions, completing class exercises and mini assignments, giving and receiving feedback on assignments. Attending the lectures and participating in the workshops will also give you a competitive advantage in preparing for the crisis simulation exercise which forms part of the course. There are two assignments, each worth 30% of your final grade which you will need to complete for the course: Assignment 1 – 30%: Crisis management case study Assignment 2 – 30%: Crisis management opinion article The last 40% of your grade is made up based on your (online) attendance and active participation in class sessions and exercises, the online discussion forum and participation in feedback fruit sessions. The 40% is divided over a period of eight lesson weeks during which you can earn points, counting 5% every week. Current events and actual international crises are used as topics for class sessions.
